Ready to throw your pup a great “Pawty?” With a little creative planning, you can host a fun time for your dog and both four-legged and two-legged friends.
1. Plan the Guest List Carefully
Invite friends from the dog park, family, and neighbors whose pups you know. Join a doggy social club and get to know members with pups of similar temperament. Enrolled in training classes? Invite some puppy pals and their pet parents. Just make sure you know each pup on the guest list can be well-behaved. If you know someone who expects to come but has a dog who tends to misbehave, politely tell them you’ve chosen a guest list with compatible doggy personalities to avoid overstimulating your pup.
2. Let Them Eat Cake (and Treats)
Find a local baker ready to create pup-worthy sweets. Grab some dog-friendly cookies for take-home treats. Then let your dog and friends chow down. You can even serve slices in dog dishes that double as party favors.
Want to DIY your pup’s party food? You can find boxed mixes for doggy birthday cakes. You can also find simple dog-friendly recipes online that leave out no-no’s like chocolate and xylitol (artificial sugar alcohol). To keep it healthy, try a yogurt pupsicle. Freeze plain yogurt with mix-ins of your choice (berries or peanut butter make a great addition) and insert a treat bone as the holder.
3. Favorable Favors
Find a few fun items like bowls, bandanas, and frisbees that you can personalize with craft cutters. Make a digital recipe card and share it. You can find doggy party hats for order as well as birthday bandanas and other wearable accessories. Plenty of custom order businesses will create personalized puppy favors like tennis balls printed with your dog’s name and birthday celebration.
4. Games
Give the birthday pup and friends time to run and interact in a managed way. If it’s hot, put a kiddie pool or sprinkler out for you pup and their pals. Use agility course tunnels and hoops for fun too. Puzzle toys for all! You can put several around the yard and give the dogs a fun hunt.
5. Think of the Humans Too
Encourage two-legged guests to get into the “pawty” spirit too by theming food and beverage choices (chips and dip served in a dog dish), providing party attire, and of course, encouraging them to socialize as they help supervise their pups.
